Jessica Whitehead is the Regional Climate Extension Specialist for the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium and N.C. Sea Grant College Program
Jessica is located at the S.C. Sea Grant office in Charleston, SC, and assists stakeholders along the both the North and South Carolina coasts. As the regional climate extension specialist, her duties include helping stakeholders understand information about climate variability and change, learn ways to incorporate climate information into decision-making, and communicating with stakeholders and university partners to form new partnerships and programs on climate research.
Jessica grew up in Charleston, SC, and her broad background in both the physical and social sciences prepared her well for climate extension work. She holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from the College of Charleston and a master of science degree in meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University. She will formally receive her PhD in Geography at Penn State in August 2009, after successfully defending her research on community drinking water systems’ capacities to adapt to climate change in early May.
